Shangri La Villingili Island is blessed with a unique nature and wildlife, which can only be found down south in Addu Atoll. Fresh water lagoons, a jungle with more than 17 000 Palm trees, 400-year-old Banyan trees and Claw trees are left to discover by guests on the island. The highest natural elevation of the Maldives, the so-called Mount Villingili, is located at the southern end of the island and has a remarkable height of 5.10 meters.

Before Shangri-La has opened the resort in 2009 on Villingili island, the island was part of the British Airbase during the first and second World War, leaving behind old bunkers and artifacts which can still be found on Villingili Island and some of the local islands. Most likely, Villingili Island might be the only island in the Maldives, where you can join a guided historical tour.
